Beverly Hills Communities Donate Two Ambulances to Magen David Adom in Israel

By Cary Schultz

Magen David Adom (MDA) is Israel's official emergency services system, providing critical blood services to the nation's hospitals and the Israel Defense Forces, and delivering disaster relief and humanitarian aid globally. Since October 7, MDA has been operating at full capacity, ensuring immediate response times akin to the City of Beverly Hills. All emergency calls (dialed as 101) are answered by trained EMTs who initiate treatment over the phone and dispatch the nearest medics and ambulances.

The life-saving ambulances of MDA are largely funded by generous philanthropists worldwide, with American donors contributing 80% of these essential vehicles. Each ambulance donation significantly enhances MDA's capabilities, ensuring timely and effective emergency responses, and ultimately saving countless lives.

Recently, two Beverly Hills families spearheaded campaigns to fund ambulances for MDA in Israel. These ambulances were personally seen by the donors before their departure from the United States, marking a powerful display of solidarity and philanthropy. This act of kindness, along with the community's generous contributions, stands as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that compassionate actions can foster positive change and provide critical support in times of need. These new ambulances will join MDA's fleet, which has grown to 2,450 emergency vehicles, including 1,550 ambulances, following the response to the events of October 7.

Dedication on May 19

On May 19, nearly 60 campaign donors and community members gathered at Young Israel of North Beverly Hills for a special dedication ceremony. This event honored the memories of Dr. Gerald Silver, Mr. Sam Praw, and Helen and Fred Baum. Around 130 people contributed to this cause, demonstrating a collective commitment to saving lives. The ceremony featured remarks from Uri Shacham, Deputy Director and Chief of Staff of Magen David Adom, who spoke about the profound impact of the community's support. Rabbi Pini Dunner of Young Israel of North Beverly Hills also provided heartfelt remarks.

Dedication on May 23

On May 23, Barak and Indre Raviv dedicated an ambulance to Magen David Adom in Israel. Barak Raviv, a Financial Advisor in wealth management, and his wife Indre Raviv, a Senior Vice President for a cybersecurity company, were deeply moved by the recent attacks in Israel and felt compelled to make a tangible difference. The dedication ceremony, attended by 150 supporters, family members, and friends, was a touching tribute.

During the ceremony, Barak Raviv dedicated the ambulance in memory of his grandmother, Sara Mostysser, who passed away in Israel on her 101st birthday. In his emotional speech, he shared a cherished lesson from his grandmother, stating, "My Bubby always taught us that talk is cheap and if you want to get something done, you need to do it yourself!" This dedication marked Barak's fifth ambulance contribution to Magen David Adom since 2006, and the first in response to the October 7 attacks. Barak, a UCLA graduate, resides in Beverly Hills with his wife Indre, their daughters Maya and Ella, and their dog Knuttie. Reflecting on their commitment, Barak expressed, “MDA has always been there for our family and friends in Israel, and we will always be there for MDA.”
