The Concern Foundation is gearing up for its 49th Annual Block Party on July 13, 2024, at the expansive back lot of Paramount Studios Hollywood. This year's theme, "MISSION CONCERN – CONQUERING CANCER, THE FINAL FRONTIER," builds on a long-standing event tradition that originated on the iconic Rodeo Drive from 1974 to 1995. Founded in 1968, the Concern Foundation has been a pivotal force in cancer research, dedicated to the mission of "CONquer canCER Now." Year after year, the event has achieved sell-out status and raised millions of dollars. As it grew in size and scope, the need for a larger venue became apparent, leading to its relocation from Rodeo Drive to Paramount Studios Hollywood. This year's Block Party aims not only to raise crucial funds and increase awareness but also to honor and celebrate the significant contributions of those committed to the fight against cancer.

At this year’s event, the Stanley and Joyce Black Family Foundation will be honored with the prestigious Legacy of Community Leadership award, a recognition that reflects the enduring philanthropic spirit established by its founders, Stanley and Joyce Black. Founded in 1989, the foundation has been a pillar of support for underserved communities, donating over $60 million to initiatives that enhance independence, health, and self-esteem.

Its grantmaking spans a diverse range of areas including Israel and Jewish life, healthcare and medical research, mental health services, education, homelessness, veterans’ support, and environmental and community beautification.

The Stanley and Joyce Black Family Foundation's commitment to philanthropy is actively upheld by their children, Jill and Jack Black, and their grandson, Zach Zalben. Together, they play a significant role in the foundation's governance and projects.

Reflecting on the foundation's recognition at this year's event, they shared, “Being honored is deeply meaningful for our family and a reminder of the reason why Stanley and Joyce started this foundation. It signifies a recognition of our continued dedication and commitment to serving and uplifting our community — a passion that our parents passed down to us.” The Black Family Foundation's commitment to the Concern Foundation spans several decades, reflecting a legacy of generosity and commitment to cancer research and community service. “Our decades of involvement with Concern have shed light on the diverse communities affected by cancer, particularly the marginalized and low-income families lacking direct support.” The family’s enduring support is highlighted through their annual participation in the Block Party, a tradition that has become a cornerstone of their philanthropic activities.

“For decades, the Concern Foundation has held a special place in our family's philanthropic efforts. Stanley and Joyce recognized the profound impact of an organization dedicated to uniting communities and advancing important research and made sure to pass the torch to us.” The alignment of the Black family’s philanthropic vision with that of the Concern Foundation has forged a powerful partnership. Both entities share a commitment to community service and the advancement of cancer research, making their collaboration a natural fit.

“The Concern Foundation emerged from a collective vision to enact tangible change, just like our family’s foundation. For us, philanthropy transcends mere financial contributions; it entails active engagement and a commitment to nurturing communities," the Black family emphasized.

As the Stanley and Joyce Black Family Foundation looks to the future, their commitment to philanthropy remains unwavering. “As we look ahead, we are filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to continue the legacy our parents began. We will persist in our foundation’s mission to uplift, empower, and inspire.”

The upcoming Block Party on July 13 will celebrate past victories and ongoing efforts in the fight against cancer. With nearly 4,000 attendees, it will feature live entertainment on multiple stages, casino-style games, live and silent auctions, and a culinary showcase from over 70 of Los Angeles' top restaurants and caterers.
