Beverly Hills Singles …This Valentine’s Day is for YOU
Valentine’s Day is approaching, and love is in the air, but for single people, it might feel like despair is in the air. Singles, you can breathe a sigh of relief because as we all know, Valentine’s is just another day (just like New Year’s Eve is just another night) and you will survive.
I’m a Beverly Hills-born and raised dating coach, author, BHHS alum ('81), and midlife marriage first-timer who knows the city like the back of my hand. I still know where all the date-friendly bars, romantic restaurants, and singles spots are because most of my dates were within the Beverly Hills city limits.
The old Wolfgang’s was my go-to for happy hour; the Crescent Hotel lounge was perfect for a fast first-date drink; I always met interesting people in the mornings at Urth Caffe, and Porta Via was lively just in case my date was boring. But my favorite place for cocktails and conversation was, and still is, the bar at the Peninsula hotel.
Single life for me was survivable because I made the best of it. Yes, it got lonely, and yes, it got old, but I never let it negatively define me or stop me from enjoying life, and neither should you. As I say in my book, “Done Being Single: A Late Bloomer’s Guide to Love,” the happier you are being single, the sooner you won’t be single. Love has a way of finding you when you’re already good on your own.
Thankfully, being single is no longer a social stigma. There’s no shame in going solo, nor judgment for being dateless on Valentine’s. If you’re single this Valentine’s, make it your own: Turn it into Galentine’s with your gal pals at Frida Cantina, or boys’ night at Steak 48, or a spa day by yourself. This is the great thing about being single — you’re the boss.
I’ll be spending Valentine’s Day with my husband, Robby Scharf, a fellow Beverly alum ('75) and midlife marriage first-timer. Our first date was at Da Pasquale, which has since closed, but our date nights in Beverly Hills continue — be it tequila shots at the Hideaway, dinner at South Beverly Grill, or to-go from Il Tramezzino. When you’re with someone you love, even takeout is romantic.
So don't despair, BH singles. There are people to meet, dates to go on, love to be found, and it's all within the Beverly Hills city limits!
