1. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEE THE DOCTOR?

“I recommend at the very minimum a once a year full check-up with blood work. This visit helps to screen for various conditions and if caught early, treatment and management are much easier. We will screen for high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, various cancer screenings, pre-diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, thyroid problems, vitamin deficiencies and so forth.”

2. RECOMMENDED EXERCISE?

“We recommend 3-5 days of 30 minutes of cardio. This includes jogging, running, cycling, elliptical. The goal is to get your heart up to 110-140.”

3. HOW DO I LOWER MY CHOLESTEROL?

“Here are my tips:

• Following a low-fat diet. Certain foods are high in fat, such as egg yolk, cheese, oil, butter, margarine, and red meat. Cutting back on all those foods will help reduce your fat intake.

• More cardio exercise, ideally 3-5 days a week, 30 min minimum reaching your target max heart rate.

• Certain supplements also help.

• Red yeast rice, as well as berberrine, can help lower cholesterol.”

4. CANCER SCREENING RECOMMENDATIONS?

“We recommend the following:

• Colon Cancer screening starting at age 45 or earlier if there is a family history of colon cancer.

• Breast cancer screening age 40 (or earlier if family history).

• Cervical Cancer age 18 or intimately active, for females. • Prostate cancer screening age 40 for men.

• Other cancer screenings recommended based on personal or family history.”

5. HOW DO I KNOW IF MY HEART IS IN GOOD CONDITION?

“Depending on your age, health history and family history, we recommend starting early to screen for heart disease. There are various tests available that can screen for heart disease. The most basic and easy test is an EKG which your Primary Care Doctor can do in the office and takes 5 minutes. Screens for any arrythmia or abnormality. Another popular test is a stress test. This is where you are asked to exercise (such as running on a treadmill) while connected to a monitor to see if there are any abnormalities detected while "stressing" your heart. A newer popular and easy test is a "coronary calcium scan". This looks for calcium deposits within your heart vessels which indicate possible disease. Talk to your primary care doctor or cardiologist to learn more.”
