Meet the Dzubak family—Beverly Hills residents and community activists—who have carved out a unique lifestyle that embodies their values of kindness, commitment, and community involvement.
The Dzubak family, parents JR and Grace, and their children Nolan and Elle, share an endearing, enriching, and engaging family dynamic. They are a diverse family unit that celebrates their multicultural heritage and prioritizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their daily lives.
"Our parents have shaped us, guided us, and shared what we should do and what we should avoid," Nolan, the oldest Dzubak, shares with a smile. "Mom is the interrogator and Dad the lecturer. But without them, we wouldn't be where we are today."
They've cultivated a lifestyle that combines their love for the outdoors, fitness, and community service, whether it's long walks in Marina del Rey, listening to the seagulls, or spending their volunteer hours and providing significant financial support to organizations like the Marina Aquatics Center (MAC).
Elle Dzubak, the family's athletic star, embodies a commitment to hard work and discipline. She’s been rowing for five years, a sport that has honed her physical expertise and instilled in her life skills that extend beyond the water.
"Rowing has taught me so much in life," says Elle. "Discipline, time management, commitment, healthy eating, preparation, and communication. And that's just to get to practice. Once you get on the water, you're learning the sport, team building, making relationships, accepting criticism, adjusting your workouts, and, most importantly, learning to win."
Elle's athletic journey has seen her attending various local and national regattas and competitions. These experiences have further molded her into a leader, demonstrating the impact of being part of a team.
"Our fondest memory would have to be starting the Community Outreach Charitable Committee in the Club last year," JR recalls, his voice full of pride. "This Committee is to help allow non-members a day at the Club by giving them a special lunch, Yacht Cruise, and water access to the beautiful Marina del Rey. We call it a Kindness Cruise for inner city youth, health care providers, and local hometown community members."
Grace and JR fell in love with Marina del Rey's waterside living and outdoor activities like biking, walking, and boating. The community's annual firework engagements during holidays such as New Year's, July 4th, and the annual Boat Parade became cherished traditions for the Dzubak family.
As an interracial family, they actively discuss and promote the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. They believe everyone should feel welcome, treated fairly, and belong wherever they go. "We talk a lot about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion," shares Grace. "We want to ensure everyone feels like they belong everywhere we go."
The Dzubak family's story is one of love, community, and shared experiences. They serve as a shining example of a modern family living life to the fullest while upholding their strong work ethic, commitment to community service, and a deep bond that ties them together. Theirs is a story of love, community engagement, and the joy of being together, proving that in the end, family is all about love and shared experiences.
For the Dzubaks, life in Beverly Hills and Marina del Rey is not just about the glitz and glamour. It's about connecting with their community, supporting each other, and making a difference. JR, the current president of the Beverly Hills Rotary Club and a commissioner for Recreation & Parks, exemplifies this commitment to service. He's also known for his involvement with the Fairwind Yacht Club, a community boating organization that's been a part of his life for 22 years.
"Fun fact," JR interjects with a chuckle, "the family absolutely enjoys our times together, especially during the Boys & Girls Club events. It's all about creating memorable moments, from dressing up for Halloween to handing out candy and lollipops to kids and driving kids in the RV while singing Depeche Mode songs."
When asked about their favorite family activities, Grace smiles and shares, "We love watching our kids develop into amazing young adults. This was a place JR and I fell in love with, and who would have thought our kids would have grown to love it even more?"
The Dzubaks' love for Marina del Rey goes beyond just personal enjoyment. They actively encourage other families to explore the area and engage in non-contact sports like rowing, kayaking, and boating, which kept families together even during the pandemic.
"Marina del Rey is a place of tranquility, healing, and inspiration," Grace insists. "It's only a seven-mile drive from Beverly Hills, and it offers an amazing opportunity for outdoor activities. We only wish we had more kids from Beverly Hills High School rowing together as it's an amazing sport for developing the whole child."
Their love for the Marina runs so deep that they bought a place at the Marina City Club two years ago. They see it as one of LA's hidden gems and want to share its beauty and tranquility with more friends and families.
"We plan on enjoying our walks, sunsets, taking future Duffy Boat rides with kids, Beverly Hills Rotarians, friends, and anyone wanting to understand why Marina del Rey is so special for everyone," Grace adds enthusiastically.
Despite their love for Marina del Rey, their heart remains in Beverly Hills. They are proud homeowners and have a small family business, Dzubak Investments, LLC, in the city.
"We love, live, and grow in Beverly Hills," JR affirms. "We moved here for the schools, the community, and safety for what Beverly Hills has to offer. We call Beverly Hills our home."
The Dzubak family embodies the spirit of community engagement and personal growth. They are a testament to the power of family, hard work, and commitment. From the sunny streets of Beverly Hills to the tranquil waters of Marina del Rey, they have found their rhythm, their happiness, and most importantly, their home.
